According to this recent CNet article Handspring has received regulatory approval for two handhelds that combine cell phone, Web browsing and traditional organizer functions.

"Codenamed the Manhattan, one of the units has a built-in keyboard similar to Research In Motion's BlackBerry e-mail pager, according to documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission. The other unit, codenamed Shea, relies on the Grafitti handwriting recognition program and software keyboard that are a standard part of the Palm operating system."

The grim news was broken to Gateway's Asia employees on Wednesday morning, with the U.S. market's fourth biggest PC company issuing statements in its various Asian centers. In all, Gateway said about 400 employees were affected in Malaysia, 28 in Singapore, 698 in Japan, 200 in Australia and 19 in New Zealand.

(AP) A day after launching its fastest Pentium 4 processor to date, Intel Corp. showed off a yet-to-be-released model that runs 75 percent faster still. The 3.5 gigahertz Pentium 4 on Tuesday ran four video streams, a game of ``Quake 3'' and other applications during the demonstration at Intel's semi-annual conference for developers. Intel would not say when it expects to begin selling the chip. Its debut came a day after the chip-making giant launched a 2 gigahertz Pentium 4, which is now on sale. The demonstration was intended to show that more powerful processors are needed, despite some analysts' lingering doubts that most buyers don't need such power. On Tuesday, Intel announced that it is implementing technologies that will make its chips run more efficiently, giving more punch to each processing cycle. One of the new technologies, dubbed Hyper-Threading, essentially makes the computer think it has two processors instead of just one.
