Press Release) NVIDIA Corporation and Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation today announced the creation of a broad strategic alliance, which includes three key elements: NVIDIA licensed its Shader Technology to E&S; the companies agreed to a broad cross-license of technology; and NVIDIA acquired key 3D graphics patents from E&S. The NVIDIA Shader Technology is a collection of patented 3D technologies enabling the creation of interactive, cinematic-quality realism through the use of highly programmable processing elements. It is the foundation of NVIDIA's family of programmable graphics processor units (GPU's), starting with the breakthrough GeForce3 GPU. Several basic components of the NVIDIA Shader Technology, particularly the first generation programmable vertex and pixel shader, were earlier licensed to Microsoft for incorporation in the DirectX(R)8 Application Programming Interface (API) and established as an industry standard.

(Press Release) Handspring, Inc. has just announced a revenue of $61.4 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2002 ended September 29, 2001, up slightly from $61.0 million as compared with the prior quarter ended June 30, 2001. Compared with the same period last year, revenue decreased by 13% due primarily to overall economic slowing and increased price competition. Excluding amortization of deferred stock compensation and intangibles, Handspring reported a net loss of $26.2 million during Q1. Excluding these costs, total operating expenses were $33.7 million, or 55% of revenue. Including amortization of deferred stock compensation net loss for the quarter was $32.7 million.

Highlights for the quarter include: introduction of two new Visor products, the Visor Neo and Visor Pro; a license agreement with Sprint PCS for the Blazer web browser software which will be available to all Sprint PCS customers using Palm OS-based wireless devices; and a strategic partnership with Aether Systems focused on delivering wireless enterprise solutions.

High-end Gaming PC Buyer's Guide: Looking to build a high-end gaming machine? This month's High-end Gaming PC Buyer's Guide has been updated to show you what $2500 can buy you.

"Our intended goal is to provide a high-end Intel and AMD gaming recommendation, but not with selections where you need to knock over the local ATM just to read it. Our high end picks will provide all of the gaming power you have come to expect from Sharky Extreme, but we still need to weigh the price-performance of the available components when fitting them in our high end systems. Selecting the best mix of components for $2500 is the tougher goal, rather than simply of assembling the best or most expensive hardware available."

(Press Release) Intel Corporation today announced the opening of its newest dedicated high-volume microprocessor manufacturing facility using the company's advanced 0.13 micron process. The company invested $2 billion to construct and equip the new facility, Fab 22, located in Chandler, Ariz., which will produce microprocessors based on Intel's copper-based 0.13 micron process technology on 200 mm wafers. The 0.13 micron technology enables the world's fastest transistor in production, which is the foundation for fast microprocessors. The circuits created by this technology are so small that it would take roughly 1,000 of them to equal the thickness of a human hair. Fab 22 is located on Intel's 705-acre Ocotillo campus in Chandler, near Intel's existing Fab 12. The new fab contains approximately 133,000 square feet of cleanroom space out of a total of 360,000 square feet that make up the facility. A new four-story, 320,000 square foot manufacturing support building and a 123,000 square foot central utility building were also completed as part of the project. Fab 22 was built in a record 18 months, with an exemplary safety record and by more than 4,200 construction workers. More than 1,000 engineers, technicians and support people have already been hired to work at Fab 22. Intel currently employs 10,000 people in Chandler.

(Press Release) AMD has reported results for the quarter ended September 30, 2001. Net sales for the third quarter of 2001 were $765,870,000, a decline of 22 percent compared with sales of $985,264,000 in the second quarter of 2001. AMD reported sales of $1,206,549,000 in the third quarter of 2000. The pro forma net loss for the quarter, which excludes one-time charges, amounted to $97,424,000, which was equivalent to $0.28 per share. The pro forma net loss excludes the effects of restructuring and other special charges amounting to $89.3 million and additional inventory provisions amounting to $6.9 million. These charges were associated with the company's previously announced plans to close wafer fabrication facilities and reduce other manufacturing activities and administrative support that primarily serve AMD foundry service operations. The pro forma net loss also excludes the effects of a charge amounting to $22 million for impaired investments. Total pro forma adjustments, net of tax credits, amounted to $89.5 million.
