(Reuters) - The marketing wheels at Microsoft Corp. are grinding into motion as the software giant gears up to launch its Xbox video game console, which it envisions not only as a gaming machine but an entertainment hub for the home. With less than a month to go before the Nov. 15 debut of Microsoft's big foray into the $20 billion-a-year global video game market, the company is marshaling everything from Mexican food to 18-wheel trucks to preach the Xbox gospel, executives said on Friday. The first advertisements are just now starting to appear in gaming magazines, marking the beach-head of a half-billion-dollar campaign to sell the Xbox over the next year and a half. Soon, ads on youth-oriented television stations like MTV and WB will start beaming the message to legions of potential buyers, mostly the 15-to-25-year-old males Microsoft sees as its key audience.

(Reuters - International Business Machines Corp. has launched a faster version of its mainframe computers, whose sales have helped it buck a downward trend in technology spending. The upgrade to the mainframe, called the e-server z900, nearly doubles the speed of secure transactions for large corporations, such as top retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. This is the first upgrade that IBM, which is by far the dominant maker of mainframes, has made to its newest machines, introduced one year ago. Weekly CPU Prices: If you're about to buy a P4, put that credit card away and step away from the keyboard! I know you're sick of hearing me tell you to wait for the expected P4 price cuts... Lord knows I'm sick of repeating it, week after week. But do you really want to pay $553 for a 2GHz P4 now, just to watch it drop in price inside of two weeks? So hold on just a bit longer and wait for those rumored cuts to come in.

The single-channel card is the newest member of Adaptec's growing family of small form factor RAID solutions that includes two recently announced zero channel products. The single-channel card's low-profile MD2 design enables it to fit into more system enclosures than cards of standard height.
