(Reuters) - The temporary shutdown of U.S. airports and record flooding were likely to bite into Taiwan tech firms' September sales, but analysts said on Tuesday the impact paled in comparison to uncertainties over demand. Taiwan's semiconductor and computer component firms had just resumed shipments to U.S. airports shut following air attacks by hijackers on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, when Typhoon Nari shut down traffic to and from the island. The shipping disruptions affected Taiwan manufacturers of custom-made microchips, computer motherboards and notebook computers, who all ship by air.

(ZDNET) Intel and memory chip designer Rambus have renewed their licensing pact. The companies renegotiated their patent cross-licensing deal and announced a new 5-year agreement on Monday. The new agreement, which supercedes the 1996 Intel-Rambus licensing agreement, grants Intel access to Rambus' entire patent portfolio. Intel has agreed to grant licenses for patents Rambus needs to build memory interface technology and also to pay unspecified royalties to Rambus.

(ZDNET) Dell Computer launched on Monday the Dimension 8200, a new high-end, consumer-oriented desktop PC designed for running 3D games, editing video and performing other intensive tasks. Because high-end PC owners also tend to upgrade hardware over the lifetime of a PC, the Dimension 8200's case can be opened like a clamshell, without tools. The new design aims to increase the ease with which customers can access the PC's internal components, a Dell representative said. Its predecessor, the Dimension 8100, is no longer for sale.

A video game due to be launched this week that would have featured Spiderman atop a New York skyscraper resembling the World Trade Center will be edited to have that scene removed and released later, publisher Activision Inc. said on Monday. The Santa Monica, California-based company said in a statement that it was postponing the launch of ``Spider-Man 2 Enter: Electro'' for the PlayStation console, out of respect for the victims of last week's attacks on the World Trade Center. The game had been set for release on Tuesday, but will now be changed to alter backgrounds that might look like the destroyed buildings. While no new shipping date has been set, the game will be available in time for the holiday season.
