i've always been told that with today's monitors, you can't really burn an image into the screen. it was a real problem back in the day with 256 color monitors with piss-poor refresh, but newer CRTs dont have that problem anymore.i use screen savers here at work cause im not supposed to be running win2k, so's to keep prying eyes off. but normally i just turn it off when im leaving for any period of time. screen savers can be a pain, i've found.

dont use screensavers as they interfere with burning i just set my monitor to autoshutoff after 1 hour...the matrix "binary rain" screensaver and dremples are the best though just for watching.

screensavers also wear out the processor/graphic card faster. since they need constant processing...well...ya know...

It all depends on your refresh rate and color temp. Like mentioned above you really don't have much to worry about. If you left your computer on without a screen saver... a few years down the road you would probably notice some greyish areas on the screen. I use 'blankscreen' as my screen saver. No processing required. If I'm leaving for a while then I'll turn off the monitor. And as to J Silver... I've noticed that all you do is insult people. When you do manage to actually answer the question asked you do it in a way as to make the asker feel stupid. That is not what these forums are all about. It is possible to answer without being a smart butt.

At my old school they have a bunch of 15" monitors that have the Novell Client login screen burnt in because the computers where on 24/7 with no screensaver for about a year and a half. So take that as you will.

Actually they do wear out as their components are heated up and cooled down.
