Such a back-to-basic game design does mean that Rage have been able to portray the emphasis on frills, spills (blood again) and big guns. They come in all shapes and sizes. Big ones little ones and even fire-breathing ones as you'll be able to choose from a plethora of an arsenal. Anything from lasers, flame-throwers, grenades and napalm. I'm sure you'd be able to impress Colonel Gadaffi if you really wanted to. When combined with a number of power-ups I think you'll agree that what you're left with a serious amount of tools available for destruction and alien carnage. Add to that fact that Expendable has been souped up with a superb 3D engine (more on that later) from Rage Software and you know that satisfaction could well be a formality.
Being developed by Rage Software's Newcastle's annexe, Expendable looks like being bloodier than all the episode's of Chainsaw Massacre combined together. Who knows why they opted for such violence and who cares if the game will be banned in Europe? The rest of us will enjoy a gore fest fit for a Vampire. Yes, it's full to the brim with blood. Did I mention that there will be spurts of blood here and there? So with that out of the way I'll get down to the meat of the game. Oh darn, I just thought I'd mention (in case I forgot?) that there was this scene when I blew the whole bloody screen and everything on it to bits with a nuke and then the whole monitor became a mess with the color red (color green in Germany I reckon). Lovely.
So it's got blood. But it's also got one hell of a spanking proprietary 3D engine able to go to 1600x1200 at 24bit with the next generation of 3D accelerators. And with Rage Software's proven track record in 3D engines you know what to expect and some. In fact their new engine will gloss with dynamic lighting effects and a superb scriptable animating particle engine. In addition, you'll be able to watch the floormap lighting techniques kick in, allowing for sweet and realistic looking destruction sequences, scorched planet effects and yes you guessed it… blood stains. I knew I'd end up mentioning that. Oh and there's also various camera angels so that you can look at all your blood stains from different angles. Actually the numerous roaming camera angels are there for Rage Software to exploit by 'directing' the action and to ensure clever placement of the aliens.
