  • Radeon is ATI's first entry into the world of hardware transformation and lighting. It is a 30-million transistor graphics processing unit (GPU) manufactured on a 0.18-micron process. The retail Radeon board, upon which this article is based, is default clocked at 164 MHz. Other retail boards may be clocked higher. 32 megabytes of video board memory is divided between only four pieces of memory chips. This article takes an in-depth look at the Radeon DDR graphics card in comparison to a GeForce2 DDR graphics card. These are the system settings:

    Windows 98
    Athlon ThunderBird 850 MHz
    VIA KT133 chipset
    256 MB PC133 SDRAM

    ATI RADEON DDR
32 megabytes of double data rate SDRAM (164/328)
    Driver version: 4.12.3056

    NVIDIA GEFORCE2 DDR
32 megabytes of double data rate SDRAM (200/333)
    Driver version: 4.12.01.0618
