  • We asked NVIDIA for their two cents on the topic of 64MB vs. 32MB. What sort of person would benefit (i.e. gamers that play at some of the higher resolutions etc...) from going with 64MB?

"Gamers that play at high resolution and high bit depths. (1600x1200x32) Benefits vary, but apps that require lots of texture memory, or a higher level of texture detail options benefit greatly at the highest resolutions."

Are there any other apps that would benefit from the extra 32MB?

"Some CAD apps, for storing large amount of display lists locally, and next-generation apps that use lots of textures per pixel for things like bump maps, detail textures, dirt maps, high res textures, normal maps, etc."

During the testing of our 64MB card, we ran into one issue namely the "AGP Fast Writes" problem. And it IS a problem. Anyone that is currently running a GeForce 256 on an Intel 820 platform, should know that by default this feature is not only "ON" but it slows down the performance by anywhere from 20-30%. The best thing you can do is turn off. We spoke to both Intel and NVIDIA about this issued and they are both aware of the problem. For the time being here's how we turned Fast Writes "OFF" - add this key into your Windows registry:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System] "ReqAGPFW"=dword:00000000
