The next step up, 605MHz (5.5 x 110MHz) was unstable during CPU intensive applications, as we couldn't keep Prime95 or Quake2 running for longer than 20 minutes before lockups would set in. We did manage to successfully boot into Win98 and utilize MS Word and Excel for extended periods at that speed however.
For the benchmark tests we pitted the Celeron running at 578MHz against a stock P3-600 CPU, which is the current performance flagship for Intel's desktop line.
The P3-600 is approximately $500 more in price than our Net-N-Dude Celeron combo kit, which indicates how much of a price/performance value overclocked CPUs can deliver at their threshold.
